Howdy y’all! It’s Kayse once again.

So you’ve just joined Valence, have a character, and are ready to play. What now? Well now it’s time to get out there and start roleplaying! You get to start participating in events, making friends, and building a name for yourself. Roleplaying for the first time can be a bit nerve wracking, and that’s okay- everyone was nervous their first time too, even me. Even then, some people just may not know where to start- so I am here to remedy that.

Passive RP

The first, easiest, and most common way role play gets started is through something called ”passive roleplay”. This can come in a few different forms, but in short it’s roleplay that happens very naturally, and happens constantly. Everything you do on Valence is in-character, from your movements to the things you say. Doing things like going on walks, talking to characters on the street, and even joining random conversations that you come across are all forms of passive roleplay.

Events

While passive roleplay is a great way to get started knowing people- events are things that happen quite often on Valence. There’s two different kinds of events that happen on the server: Event team events & player events. Events run by our event team are posted in 📜events, and are either event runner’s personal event lines or season events. Player events are basically everything else, tavern openings, festivals, balls/galas, town halls, etc. These events are planned and hosted by non-event team members. Usually player events are posted in the-board. Going to events is a great way to start getting involved in different stories and roleplay groups!

Lore Plotting

One of our channels on our Discord is 📜lore-plotting, which is a place for players to create posts to gauge interest on their ideas, characters, and plots. This channel is completely out-of-character, so keep that in mind! This is a great place for new and old players to see if anyone else is interested in interacting with your character and your ideas.

Getting a Job

A good way to start getting involved is simply by getting a job in-character, especially at a place that opens frequently. People love to spend money and window shop- and events such as business openings and market days are always bound to bring a wave of people looking to spend silver. Not to mention, you’ll get paid in-character to roleplay, so it’s a win-win. If you need help getting a job, check out this and this on the How to Make Silver post.

Moving Somewhere

One last and easy way (also bound to happen regardless) to get introduced to roleplay is by moving somewhere! There are many different towns and estates in Kara, and all of them have different people who live and work in them. Many places are great, already connected communities- and are a great way to make friends both in-character and out-of-character. Try asking around and see which places are available to move to.

So there ya go! Obviously there’s more ways than just these to get involved in roleplay, but these are some of the most common- and the easiest. I hope this help some of you guys out, and I look forward to interacting with your character server-side!
