Howdy everyone! Kayse here.

One of the few things that people seem to struggle with is making silver on Valence, it’s not a commonly known thing for new players- and some people simply want options (which is okay!)

There are quite a few ways to make silver on Valence, and while not all of them are listed here- this is a good place to start.

SILVER MINES

When you leave the spawn boat, go talk to Gretchen- who has a stand set up on the lower portion of the docks. Ask for the exploration compass, and starter tools. You will get a special compass that has important places on the server, as well as a starter set of tools and a donkey.

Set your exploration compass to the silver mines, and leave out King’s Road (on the west side of the city) and follow it straight to the mines.

The silver mines are dangerous, and have mobs in them. If you don’t have weapons and armour- ask for someone to escort you, or see if anyone has some you can borrow! You can ask in general chat in the Discord, or simply ask in global. (Use /chats to see how to use global chat.) Steward's Cross also has armour and weapons available for use.

Go down and mine! If there’s no silver in there, you can come back later! The silver regenerates over time, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find some.

Once you think you have enough silver or simply want to be done, head back to the city!

Now it’s time to smelt your silver.

Head to the smelter at the Tempered Talon in the city, and get your silver smelted into bars, then take these bars to the bank and talk to Clarence.

Congrats! You’ve profited.

FISHING

Firstly, you need to make a fishing rod. The recipe is the same as vanilla minecraft, but you can also use bamboo or sugarcane in place of sticks. You should get a cool looking fishing rod.

Next you need to go talk to the fisherman (Captain O’Malley) on the Stone Bay docks. He is located on the southwest side of the city, on the lower level of the dockyard. Select the dialogue option for “fishing quests” and get started!

Captain O'Malley at his stand, excited about fishing.

We have custom fish for these quests, and they can be found in a variety of different biomes, water types, and weathers. If you don’t know where to find the fish, you can ask in general chat in the Discord, or simply ask in global. (Use /chats to see how to use global chat.)

Get fishing! You might not get the fish right away, but don’t worry! It just takes patience.

Once you get your fish, go back to the Captain and ask about fishing quests again. He will take your fish and give you silver.

There is ALSO a brand new way to make silver from fishing, and it’s just selling your fish normally. Go talk to Captain O’Malley once you have a bunch of fish, and sell what you have. See more information here.

Congrats! You’ve profited. These fishing quests reset every day, so be sure to check in!

SKIN MAKING

As a roleplay server, Valence has a large demand for cool looking skins and outfits! While I can’t teach you how to make good skins, it’s fairly easy to learn on your own. If you already know how to make skins, congrats! If you don’t know how to make skins, don’t just steal skins off the internet- you might get called out. It’s not explicitly against the rules to try and sell a premade skin (unless the skin is something that is copyrighted), why should people pay for something they can download online?

First you’ll want to make your outfit using a skin maker. Keep in mind people use both 3px and 4px skins, so be prepared to switch the skin to either of those.

Once you have your skin, take a screenshot of it and download the skin file.

Then you can make a post on classifieds. Remember this channel is completely in-character, so get creative with it! Tell people what inspired the outfit, what it’s “made of”, and make sure you have a cool name for the outfit! Add a picture of the outfit, and select the “selling” tag before you make your post.

There’s two different ways to sell an outfit on classifieds. You can either auction it off or just sell it at a base price. Keep in mind you should only sell ONE of the same skin, no one wants to walk around in their “one-of-a-kind” outfit and see someone else wearing the same thing.

When auctioning something off, there’s a few things you need.

  • A base price. This can be anything you’d like, and you should set it lower than what you want it to sell for. I usually suggest anywhere from 128sp-256sp, but you can go higher if you want!
  • A minimum increase. There’s a habit of people just betting 1sp up, and that’s not very profitable for you. This minimum increase should be divisible by 8. I would suggest 8sp, 16sp, 32sp, or even 64sp.
  • A date for the auction to end. Usually this time is a couple of days after you make the post. Use a Discord timestamp generator to put your time in- it will show up in the correct timezone for everyone else in Discord. I personally use this generator. Once you set your time and date, go to output and use the “long date with day of week and short time” option. Then copy the code it gives below and just paste that into Discord.
  • An optional thing you can put in your auction is a buyout. This buyout is a way to make a LOT of silver quickly. This price should be high, and something you would be comfortable selling your outfit for. These prices can start at 1,024sp and go up from there. If someone says they’ll pay the buyout price, the auction ends- no matter how much longer it’s open for.

Once the auction ends, or the buyout price is matched- get in contact with the person who won the outfit either through the comments of the post, or just DM them! Set up a time and place to meet. Send them the skin file and collect your silver in-game.

Profit.

EMPLOYMENT OFFICE

Go to the customs house, which is located immediately on the left side of the docks if you’re exiting the boat. It has a sign on the side of the building.

The Customs House, previously known as the Welcome Center.

Go inside, and head towards the back. Just before the courtyard, turn right and the employment office is right there.

The Employment Office, full of unfilled jobs.

Look through the jobs that are posted, and see if you’re interested in any of them. Once you find a job you’d like to apply for, get a book & quill and make your application. This application should include your character’s name and a return address (where you live). If you don’t have a book & quill, grab out of the barrel within the employment office. If it’s empty you can ask in general chat in the Discord, or simply ask in global. (Use /chats to see how to use global chat.)

Once you sign and submit your application, it’s time to wait. If you’re selected to have an interview, you should receive a letter in your mailbox, or you might be contacted in Discord. If you’re hired, your new job should give you all the information to get started.

Getting a job in character is a great way to have a steady income of silver, and gives you a chance to get involved in roleplay.

THE BAY BUILDING COMPANY (BBC)

To work for the BBC, you’ll need two mods to work. If you don’t know how to download/use these mods, don’t worry! There are people who can help you get set up, ask in general chat in the Discord, or simply ask in global. (Use /chats to see how to use global chat.)

To get started on work, in the main Discord go to "Channels & Roles" and select the "Building Opportunities" section. You will be given a role that will alert you with new building jobs with the BBC!

After you’ve worked on a build, write a letter to the BBC at 86 Stone Street, City of Stone Bay, Orlan. Say what project you worked on, what you did specifically, and be sure to include your character’s name and a return address. Within due time you’ll be paid for your work.

The front of the BBC building, waiting with anticipation for mail.

The BBC always has a lot of projects going on, and if you have a weird schedule because of work, school, or living outside of the Americas- the BBC is a great way to get silver without having to be online when everyone else is.

WORKING AS A PAGE/GUARD

Working for a town or noble estate is a great way to not only make silver, but to find a place to live and friends to hang out with.

If you already live somewhere, get in touch with your local mayor or lord- see if they’re hiring. Keep in mind most places ONLY hire people who live there, so look around- see who you vibe with.

The two entry-level jobs you can get are that of a page or a guardsman. Pages can do a multitude of things, such as delivering letters, organising storages, and lots more. Guardsmen typically participate in training, are available when called upon, and can escort VIPs around on request. Both of these jobs are a great way to not only make money, but to make a name for your character to get new opportunities, and a better paying job ;).

HIRING OFF CLASSIFIEDS

Not all job opportunities are in the employment office, and oftentimes some one-off opportunities are posted into classifieds. When you go onto classifieds, select the “hiring” tag to ONLY look at posts that are intended to hire people for jobs.

If you see a job you’re interested in, send a message under the post or follow the instructions in the post- just remember to be in-character when you do so. The person who made the post should reach out with the information needed to get started.

GRANTS FROM THE CHURCH OF THE DEEP

The Church of the Deep is not only the biggest religion on Valence, but also the biggest charity. If you have under 1000sp, you can apply for a grant from the Church of the Deep. You don’t have to be a new player, and you don’t have to be part of the Church either.

To get started, fill out the grant form here. Once done, submit it. These grants are viewed every two weeks, and if your grant is accepted- you will receive a letter from the Church along with your silver.

Keep in mind, this is not a way to continuously earn money whenever you’re low. Making a couple applications if you’re truly struggling is alright, but the Church doesn’t have unlimited coffers. Don’t take advantage of their charity, and you’ll be okay.

This method of getting silver should be one of your last options if nothing else is working, but that doesn’t mean that you should give up on making silver other ways.

CLOSING STATEMENT

So, there you go! A few ways to make silver on Valence. As stated previously, this is NOT every single way to make silver- but it’s a good place to start. Even if you’ve tried all of these options and are struggling, I always like to offer my help.

If you have any questions, or need help generally there’s a couple places to ask.

  • Help Chat
  • General Chat
  • Or you can just DM me on Discord! My DMs are always open, and I always try to respond as soon as I can. Don’t be scared to ask for help. My Discord is kaysebugg.

Anyways, that’s the end of another long document I’ve made- so hopefully it’s helpful.

See you all server-side, and welcome to Valence!

Love,

Kayse
